Best places to visit in and around Zadar

·7 min read

A short guide to what's worth seeing within an hour of our beach — Sea Organ sunsets, Krka waterfalls, Pag cheese and the Velebit mountains.

Sea Organ & Greeting to the Sun

Start in the old town. The Sea Organ plays music through pipes under the marble waterfront — the waves do the work.

Next to it, the Greeting to the Sun is a 22-meter circle of solar glass that lights up at sunset. Both are free, and both are best at golden hour.

Krka National Park

About an hour south. Seven waterfalls connected by wooden walkways, with Skradinski Buk as the star.

Go in the morning to beat the crowds and bring a swimsuit in the shoulder season.

Paklenica & the Velebit

Thirty minutes from Ljubač. Limestone canyons rising straight from the coast, with hikes from one hour to a full day above the treeline.

Big-wall climbing routes too — Croatia's most famous climbing area.

Pag island

Lunar landscapes, the world-class Pag cheese made from sheep grazing on salt-soaked herbs, and quiet bays for swimming.

Cross the bridge from the mainland — no ferry needed.

Nin — the smallest old town

Walking distance from Ljubač. Tiny medieval island town, mineral mud beach and shallow lagoons.

Easy half-day trip and great for kids.

Plitvice Lakes

Two hours inland — sixteen turquoise lakes connected by waterfalls, wrapped in beech forest.

If you only do one big day-trip on your kite holiday, make it this one.
